My New Home!
I bought a house. I haven’t been more geeked about anything ever. This feels like my biggest achievement since graduating college. The whole journey of buying a house was so exhausting and tedious and expensive and fun and fulfilling.
I started my journey by getting approved for a mortgage. The approval process may have been the most painless part of the entire ordeal. I simply uploaded documents and waited for an email. It took about 15 minutes.
The next segment was finding a realtor. I worked with Khaliya Thomas with Keller Williams. I wanted to enjoy the full home-buying experience of having a realtor to drag around from house to house and force to do my paperwork. She was such a joy to work with and bounce ideas off of. We must have looked at 25 houses. The hardest part of the home-buying process was finding a home I felt was worth the money. I also very much wanted a home I could shape into my own. In the end that’s exactly what I found.
Actually getting my loan to go through was a much more tedious process. I had to re-upload all my documents. Then I had to mentally accept exactly how much money I would be paying per month. The final closing price was $217,900. The actual mortgage payment is affordable. Once you tack on taxes and insurance the number goes way up. The back and forth with the seller wasn't as difficult as some negotiations can be, but during the process you want everything to go your way. I walked away from the table with $1500 in closing costs and the Air Conditioning unit brought to working order. All in all we closed in 6 weeks.
The home I eventually bought is a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath in a quaint neighborhood where neighbors actually help each other and even have porch parties. I’m beyond ready to share with you all my brand new home. Check out the link below to tour my brand new home with me.
