Defining my Space
There’s something about applying personal touches to blank walls to create a unique sanctuary. Home is all about creating a space that makes you happy. In this part of my journey I’ve been trying to define my style and figure out exactly what makes me happiest. I love color and pattern mixing and interesting lines. I hate blank walls and function over fashion. Right now I feel I’m somewhere between neotraditional and eclectic. I really love classic pieces and mixing antiques with modern colors and patterns. I think I’ll call it “Millennial Grandma”.
However I can be so lazy about committing to decorating a space. I want everything to be perfect so I’ll often start a space and leave it in disarray because I’m not sure how to finish it. Well today is the day to be better. Decorating and posting my home required a mental shift. I have to accept that home is an evolving state. Once a space is decorated, it’s not a permanent state. I can always change whatever I want. So while I’m making decisions daily in this space, I wanted to share with you my current home tableaus. Please let me know below how you would define this space. Thanks!
Rust Bedroom
One of my favorite things is to push two colors together. I was exploring a thrift store when I found the botanical print above the headboard which was confirmation that rust and turquoise belong together.
Clutter in the Rust Bedroom
Clutter is seriously an art form. Trying to make objects seem purposeful, but attractive. Right now I’m focusing on groups of three.
Millenial Pink and Gen Z Yellow
This may be my most inspired room yet. This entire room was inspired by a floral arrangement I found on GreenWeddingShoes.com. I was just really moved by the pink and yellow together. And the feather lamp hanging in the upper left corner of the screen is my take on the AModernGrandTour feather lamp that I’ve also been obsessed with for years.
Vibrant Dining
I’m going to share a little secret with y’all. I never eat here. BUT it’s right next to my laundry so I dressed the table up nice so that I wouldn’t be tempted to put my baskets of clean clothes here. The space is really small and I found this great table for two that has two fold out leafs to be a square table. I love when function and fashion work together.
Close-Up Dining
Pier One plates and bowl. Thrifted Goblet. RIP Pier One.
Kitchen Plants
I’ve jumped on the millennial wave and I have plants everywhere. It’s such a joyous process to create life in one’s home without having to change diapers. This is unfortunately, the only picture of my kitchen today. While it’s a nice space, it’s a basic white kitchen in a rental with 1980’s green Formica counter tops. Not exactly kitchen porn.
Eclectic Living Room
This may be the most organically formed room of them all. I’m so proud of so many of the pieces in this room. The TV stand in the left of the picture is my first real adult furniture purchase. The peacock side table in the corner is a piece I hope to have FOREVER. It’s quirky but elegant and fun and I love it. The colors in this room are just thrown together, but they all manage to work due to the hard work of throw pillows. The majesty palm really draws the eye and creates a vertical dimension. And my gallery wall honors my parents and grandparents and Biscuit, reminding me of all the ideals that formed me. Literally my favoritest room.
Living Room - New Angle
A close up of my TV stand I was gushing about above. This is most often the view of the television that I have.
Thank you so much for touring my home today. Let me know in the comments if you think “Millennial Grandma” is an appropriate term for my decor style or if you would define me as something else altogether: Maximalist? Bohemian? Neotraditional? Eclectic? Shabby Chic?
