5 Steps to the Perfect Bath

5 Steps to the Perfect Bath

The year of our lord two thousand twenty has been A LOT. And we’re only halfway through. Instead of focusing on the general ennui of this year, I want to share my favorite way to destress:

Having a perfect bubble bath.

I love the ritual of creating a bath experience and letting all of my current stresses wash away. There’s more to creating a relaxing bathing experience than just filling the tub with water. My 5 steps to create the perfect bath are to engage all five sense.

  1. Set a Playlist

While I love listening to my beagle, Biscuit, play with her squeaky toys, that isn’t the most relaxing thing to listen to. Before I even begin to run the water, I make sure to start a playlist on my phone. Time by Sebastian Mikael is a good song to start with.

  2. Create Ambiance

Light all of the candles you’ve been waiting to burn. Bathing in a dimly lit room is one of the biggest visual cues that this bath is for relaxation instead of purely for hygiene.

  3. Aromatherapy

There are a few ways to engage the olfactory senses in creating an ideal bath. I generally allow my candles to pull double duty and highlight their scents. Occasionally I will add essential oils so that the scent will linger on my skin.

  4. Luxurious Feels

Creating an escaping bath depends entirely what is added to your water. Bath bombs are a convenient way to add oils, color, and scent to your bath at once. For a truly luxurious feel, I love a milk and honey bath with a few drops of olive oil. The milk makes the water feel as if it envelops your skin while the oil and honey will leave your skin glowing. Just be sure not to add too much oil to avoid accidents when exiting the tub. For today’s bath, I wanted all of the foamy suds. To optimize suds formation, add your bubble bath as soon as you start your water flow. Also move the formed bubbles away from the tap to allow more suds to form.

  5. Enjoy a Glass

And lastly, while I’m not a fan of food in the bathroom, you should complete your experience by enjoying a glass of your favorite wine as you drift into pure relaxation.
